Do you offer refunds?

Unfortunately, all payment for all Saturday Gene-ius session(s) is processed through the Research Corporation of Hawai‘i and is out of our control. As a result of this, all payment for Saturday Gene-iuses is non-refundable.

Is parking available on the UH Campus on Saturdays?

Yes, there is a flat-rate fee of $7. You may park in any available stall.

What is your policy concerning chaperones?

Chaperones are required for students in grades 1 to 3 to assist students with activities. However, a chaperone may be required at any grade level at the discretion of the program director if a student requires extra assistance in the classroom.

Can I chaperone more than one student?

We allow a limited number of parents can chaperone up to two students

Can students sign up for the classes individually?

Unfortunately, students need to register for the classes as a set because the classes are designed to progress in a continuous manner.

What grade level should I register my child for?

Please register for the grade level that your child will be enrolled in during the program.

My child is in the grade 1 to 3 session, does the chaperone have to be the same person each time?

No, chaperones do not have to be the same person and can alternate between mom, dad, or any other adult over the age of 18. Simply notate the names of the chaperones on the registration form so we can provide name tags for them.

My son or daughter cannot make it to one of the Saturday classes; will it be possible to switch to a different set?

Our Gene-ius Saturday classes reach full capacity every year and we, unfortunately, cannot accommodate additional students. Therefore students will not be able to switch between the AM and PM classes.

I am new to Saturday Gene-iuses, is there a packet, program or schedule I will receive or download?

We provide parents/chaperones information about each class one week prior to each session, this will include logistics such as class location, check-in time, parking, etc. This information will be emailed to you so please make sure to check your email for this information.

Can I bring my other children or guests to the Saturday classes?

No. The seats in our classes are reserved for students that register for the program. Please do not bring other siblings/friends that have not registered for our program due to the limited seating that is available.

I have children who are in 1st and 5th grade. Can they be put in the same classes?

We highly discourage putting siblings of different grade levels in the same class. Our classes are organized by grades 1-3, 4-6, 7, 8-9, and 10-12 with age-appropriate activities geared towards the specific learning ability for each grade level.

Can you make accommodations for a student who has a physical disability?

Yes, all of the University of Hawai‘i campuses are ADA friendly. Simply let us know in advance of the accommodations that you require by contacting the program coordinator.

My son is in Kindergarten; can I still register him for the Saturday Gene-ius event?

Yes! We have accommodated Kindergarteners in the grade 1 to 3 class with success. Please email us in advance for approval and keep in mind that the classes the kindergarteners will be attending are developed for students in grades 1 to 3.

Where are the Saturday Gene-ius sessions held?

The Saturday Gene-ius sessions are held in in teaching laboratories at the University of Hawai‘i, Mānoa in the St. John Plant Science Building and Gilmore Hall.
